Hungry husband seeks divorce from wife who can’t cook
The relationship is on the chopping block.
There are many “flaws” – or unattractive qualities – that can turn a partner off, but one in particular that has become a bone of contention is cooking.
While some celebrities have revealed they rarely cook for their families — from Kim Kardashian to Brittany Mahomes — one Reddit user admitted that his wife, 31, After sharing his cooking woes online after being useless in the kitchen, he wondered if she was doing it on purpose.
“Overall, everything is great, but one thing that’s been bugging me is that my wife can’t cook at all,” the 28-year-old wrote on the popular Reddit forum “Am I A ?”Hole? “
“I’ve always been the one doing the cooking, which I was happy with at first because I love cooking.”
Now, however, he says it has become a burden. After “a long day’s work,” he was forced to prepare a meal while his wife wandered around the house. Despite his best efforts to teach her how to cook, “she was really bad at it,” he said.
According to the original poster, she tried slicing strawberries with the stems still on and ended up “literally messing up the macaroni and cheese, like the stuff in the box.” He admitted in the comments that he had no idea she was getting married He couldn’t cook before and “couldn’t tell if she was doing it on purpose,” calling it a “deal breaker.”
“She refused to cook and claimed there was nothing wrong with her inability to cook,” he continued. “This is an ongoing issue between us.”
The problem came to a head when his mother came over for dinner and to help her prepare the food, she handed his wife a knife to cut fruit and she “didn’t know how to hold it properly.”
“My mom watched her fail at cutting fruit and blurted out, ‘Honestly, it’s so pathetic that you don’t even know how to cut fruit at your age,'” the man wrote, explaining that after his mom After leaving, his wife was angry because he “didn’t protect her” and “embarrassed her.”
“She’s actually older than me and can’t hold a knife properly,” he continued, adding that his wife now thinks he’s “a big asshole.” “She told me that wasn’t the point, that I needed to defend her and that it wasn’t her fault that she wasn’t a good cook.”

While some Reddit users thought he should at least defend her against his mom’s comments, most agreed that the wife should be able to prepare basic meals — macaroni and cheese, grilled cheese, pasta — and know how to cut produce.
“Every adult should know basic cooking skills in order to support themselves, like safely using a knife to cut fruit,” one person wrote. “Honestly, she’s been in this situation somehow.”
“Your wife should at least know how to cut fruit and some basic dishes. If she really doesn’t know, she won’t even try or ask how to handle things, which seems lazy,” another person chimed in.
“It’s not hard to cook pasta, heat sauce, meatballs, etc. It’s not hard to make a lot of simple dishes with minimal instruction,” someone else wrote. “Being able to feed herself from microwave dinners and fast food is an important life skill, but she refuses to even try to master it.”
The original author said he believes “this is weaponized incompetence” and plans to attend marriage counseling and cooking classes with his wife.
“If things don’t change, I’ll be out,” he added. “I’ll make it very clear.”
While this may seem dramatic, a previous Harvard Business School survey showed that housework can be damaging to couples’ relationships. The study showed that 25% of participants said they filed for divorce due to “disagreement over household chores,” ranking third among the reasons for divorce.
At least one expert has responded to the viral complaint – giving the hungry husband the green light to do what’s best for him.
“Cooking is a life skill, and if your partner refuses to learn it, it’s not your job to teach them, and you can leave any relationship you don’t want to be in,” relationship expert Cat Hoggard Wagley ), told Delish.
“At the end of the day, it should be your partners, and that means teamwork.”
