Their love is fatal.

A British woman has fallen in love with an American prisoner serving a 20-year sentence for manslaughter.

In June 2024, Robyn Kett saw a post on Reddit from a family member of 27-year-old Deandre Parsons asking if anyone would be his pen pal. .

Parsons, who killed a man with a gun, was lonely, his family said in the post.

The 33-year-old stay-at-home mum decided to send a message out of curiosity – she had just lost her partner Nick, 35, to cancer in December 2023 and decided “life is too short”.

“I saw him. I just thought, ‘Why don’t I send him a message?'” Kate told Southwest News. “My friend wrote to someone and said it was different, and I was curious.”

She said they “connected instantly” even though he wasn’t her “normal type”.

“He was really easy to talk to. He seemed so genuine,” Kate shared. “It’s like I’ve known him my whole life.”

“You know, when you feel something, it grabs you,” she added.

When Kate, who is from Connecticut, and Parsons first started talking, Parsons didn’t talk much about his faith, but he eventually began to open up, Kate said.

“I Googled him to make sure he wasn’t crazy,” she admits.

Parsons pleaded guilty in Stamford Superior Court to first-degree manslaughter after a failed armed robbery. In September 2022, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison, SWNS reported.

“The original charge was felony murder,” Kate explained. “He went to a house to rob cannabis but there was a man, his partner and children there. He didn’t go out and harm anyone that day.”

But Kate doesn’t think Parsons is a convicted killer.

“I can’t link him to criminal behavior. I’m not a judgmental person,” Kate said. “You can’t judge a person because of their situation. You don’t know the individual situation.”

The two exchanged messages every day, and Parsons called Kate from prison every chance he got. He receives 10 messages and six toll-free calls a day, which they use to discuss everything from food to TV shows.

“He makes me laugh,” Kate said. “I just fell in love.”

She added: “It was natural. He told me he loved me before he saw my photo.”

The couple have been talking for four months now and Kate plans to save up money and get documents authorizing her visit to fly to the prison next year to meet the convicted murderer.

Although Parsons was sentenced to 20 years in prison, he is still expected to be eligible for parole in six years.

“He talks a lot about the future,” Kate said. “I would move there. I want a future with him.

“Since losing my partner in December, I’ve realized that life is too short. I didn’t expect to find love again,” she added.

Luckily for Kate, her friends and family aren’t judgmental either – they tell her “if you can find happiness, grab it.”
