Review: Midnight Zoo Loakahn Fantasy Dildo

Featuring alien details and climbing tendrils, the Loakahn is a beautiful sci-fi style dildo with an intimidating shape and expanded girth. The design details are exactly what I like to see on a fantasy dildo, promising a delicious texture while delivering otherworldly fantasies.

Design and specifications

Midnight Menagerie is an Australia-based fantasy sex toy manufacturer that aims to turn fantasies into reality. They come in knots, flares, tentacles and more, with a comprehensive lineup (including some models truly designed by you) that sparkle with their beautiful bevels and premium paint. They have recently purchased two models from the recently closed manufacturer Erotic Effect that I highly recommend everyone look at (Krothur and Aerlyn).

The Loakahn is a thickly swollen dildo with tons of nice curved detail on the sides, bumps on the outermost curve, and ripples on the head. It conjures up images of alien or deep-sea creatures with tentacle-like details, especially in the shiny blue base color I chose.

I debated a bit about whether to call it a “bulge” or a “knot.” It can be read either way, but most angles look more like a swell, and it doesn’t feel as abrupt as a knot, so I’ll call it a swell.

My Loakahn has shimmery bluish-purple highlights on black. A bit of black is revealed along the base, which was an intentional part of my customization request. Similar highlights throughout the toy can be ordered as Color #3 Highlights on Black.

In the medium size, it has a usable length of approximately 6.75 inches, a head circumference of 1.5 inches in diameter (4.75 inches in circumference), and a maximum circumference of 2.75 × 2.25 inches in diameter at the hump (7.75 inches in circumference). At a medium hardness of 00-50, it is strong but will deform somewhat when crushed. The finish is more matte than shiny, giving it a skin-like feel.

This model is one of Midnight Menagerie’s older models, so while the quality is pretty good, it has some minor flaws and the finish is less glossy. This model may be updated in the future to bring it into line with newer models. Personally, it’s within the quality range I’d expect from a toy, and I like a less glossy finish, so I’m happy with the production quality.

Prices start at AU$125 (US$86) for a medium Loakahn, with custom pours with highlights priced at AU$130 (US$90).

My Loakahn received a medium Myrddin (which I will also be reviewing soon) and a brand ownership card listing the model name, hardness, and special features.

The top section is easy to insert due to its relatively slim profile. The ribbed texture on the head feels nice at my entrance, but once it passes my entrance I can’t really feel it because it’s on the elongated side.

The ridges under the head create very strong texture points: It’s strong enough to pleasure me if I’m fully aroused, and I can feel it about an inch inside my entrance since it’s wider than my head. If I’m still warming up, then I need to use extra lube so it doesn’t irritate me.

My body naturally rests on top of the waves, whose circumference increases dramatically. As long as I’m warmed up and lubed up, it goes in easily with one push. In some rotations, expansion is easier to insert than others. Every angle feels different, with different textures and shapes.

The top of the Loakahn, showing the ridges under the head. This is the angle at which it looks most like a knot.

At certain angles, the swelling presses on my G-spotthis is something I like. Unlike most ocean waves, Loakahn’s axis is oval: Thicker in one direction than the other, like an oval. The ball shape pushes in all directions and creates a very padded feel (often with stretch), while the Loakahn’s oval shaft exerts noticeable pressure in two opposite directions. It’s similar to the pressure created by a strong flare, and I can feel the specific points where it’s pressing. It’s not what I usually look for after a knot or puff, but it still felt nice and still filled (albeit to a lesser degree than a round puff).

I was a little worried that the texture on the thickest part might be painful – I’m sensitive to knots and swollen texture – but luckily it was just right. The vertical orientation of much of the texture, combined with the low frequency of bumps on the tendrils, makes it feel good without being overwhelming. The coarsest texture comes from the ridges just below the head; everything else is milder.

The combination of stiffness and girth makes the swell feel quite thick and firm, while the stiffness makes the texture under the head quite firm so the dildo doesn’t feel soft or squishy when in use. I like this, but it requires me to warm up and be prepared for a somewhat intense experience.

There is not much space after expansionso keeping the expansion inserted is difficult unless sitting directly on it (having something to support it for at least a few inches). Even so, this stretch was still closer to my entrance than I’d hoped. Since it doesn’t stay in place very well, the Locan feels best when it’s constantly on the move.

The base is easy to hold but becomes slick once the dildo is fully inserted. When pushing, my fingers were a little strained from pushing the expansion inside, but the base provided some degree of leverage. I prefer the push because turning the Loakahn changes the feel of the expansion, which is not easy to do while riding.

Comprehensive

The Loakahn is a gorgeous dildo with a unique design and thick swell. The oval-shaped inflation provides more concentrated pressure than traditional round inflation and has a texture that ranges from medium to strong, which is fun for insertion. However, the lack of a stem when inflated prevents it from locking inside, keeping the stretch close to the entrance, making it difficult to sit down and enjoy it.

If the Loakahn design were updated, I’d like to see a slimmer, slightly longer stem. Currently, the stem only tapers from certain angles, but I think it may need to taper all around to be effective.

If you prefer a medium intensity experience, the Loakahn should be fun to play in at your typical preferred size and firmness. If you’re not sure, I recommend choosing a softer firmness for a more comfortable texture and expansion.

If you want something that fills in all around or a puff that locks in nicely but has less texture, then I recommend waiting for Midnight Menagerie to launch Krothur on their website as it works better as a filler puff.
