Ways couples can save money on their wedding day

Times are tough.

When you agree to attend a wedding, you should not agree to pay for the bride and groom’s wedding expenses. Unfortunately, however, that’s exactly what happened to the guests, who were asked by a couple to help pay for the venue and accommodation.

The r/weddingshaming forum on Reddit got a buzz going when a bridesmaid shared this story. The post explained how the couple chose a venue that was a seven-hour drive for most guests and two hours from the nearest airport.

“They decided to rent a large house instead of a more traditional venue because large houses are popular where they are getting married. They are asking every family member and member of the wedding party to stay at the house that will be the venue for the entire week leading up to the wedding,” the post read.

“In addition to requiring everyone to stay for a week, they also require everyone to pay for accommodation. They charge couples $1,200 for accommodation and singles $600 for accommodation, which is essentially making everyone pay for their own venue.

“They also seem very offended when people don’t want to stay for a week, as if it’s a problem and fully expect to make back the cost of the wedding by doing so,” the original poster continued.

Talk about a crazy question.

As crazy as this situation is, as more and more couples pay for their own weddings, they seem to be going to extremes, either saving money or making crazy demands on their guests.
